Is Postmates Stealing Tips?
Some couriers are worried that Postmates and the Uber Eats app are stealing or shorting their tips. However, tips can take a few days to show up on the app. Customers can add a tip up to 90 days after the delivery and adjust the tip an hour after delivery.
Postmates and Uber Eats Tips
Postmates was bought by Uber in 2020 and merged into the Uber Eats platform around June of 2021. During this time, Postmates drivers had to apply to become Uber Eats couriers, and the Postmates Fleet app was disabled.
There were claims that drivers weren’t receiving payments and tips during this time, but these claims have since been resolved. Postmates cannot steal a driver’s tips because the Fleet app doesn’t exist anymore. Instead, couriers use the Uber Eats platform to deliver Postmates orders.
Postmates Customers Tipping Options
One of the reasons you might believe Postmates or Uber Eats is stealing tips is because customers have ample time to adjust tips. Postmates customers can add tips in three different ways, including:
- Before they place their order
- After the order has been delivered
- From their order history
Before Placing an Order
Postmates customers can add tips before they place a delivery order by following the steps below:
- After choosing your delivery items, follow any prompts on the checkout screen.
- You’ll be prompted to add an optional tip on the last screen before finishing your order.
- You can select the gratuity amount and percentage or decide on a custom amount by selecting “Other.”
You can change this tip amount up to one hour after the order has been delivered.
Postmates customers will have the option to add a tip and rate their experience after their order has been delivered. You’ll receive an email and an updated receipt with the new gratuity amount if you opt for adding it after drop-off. You cannot adjust the tip amount after adding it.
From Your Order History
Postmates customers can add a tip to a successful delivery up to 90 days after dropoff. Here’s how to add gratuity fees from the order history tab:
- From the Postmates app, select “Account” near the bottom menu bar.
- Choose “Orders” and locate the delivery you want to add gratuity to.
- Select “Add tip” located beside the tip amount.
You cannot adjust the gratuity amount after adding it at this stage.
