Can You Rent a U Haul Truck For Multiple Days at a time?
Yes, you can rent a U-Haul truck for multiple days at a time. You may find this shocking as you probably thought you could only rent it for a day. A lot of people rent U Hauls for multiple days at a time.
2,3 days or a week?
Yes, you can most certainly rent a U Haul for 2 or 3 days or even a week. It is really up to you and what your needs are. It also depends a lot on the availability of the truck.
As long as the truck is openly available and hasn’t been scheduled to be rented out on a certain day you should have no issues renting the U Haul truck for a few days to a week. I say this because some U Haul stores only have so many U Hauls and they will only allow you to keep the truck so long.
While you have the truck, they’ll still be taking reservations on it to make sure the money keeps flowing in. At this point, it is merely a money game. So the particular truck that you choose to rent may or may not be available for 2-3 days or a week.
Sometimes, you can work out something with U Haul where you will be able to rent it a while longer. Maybe two or three days or a week extra that they let you rent it out. You are paying for those extra days so it should be no problem for you to rent the U Haul truck for more days.
Can You Rent a U Haul for More Than 24 Hours?
Yes, you can rent a U Haul for more than 24 hours. You can do this by putting however many days you’ll be needing the truck when you go to place the reservation to rent it. Not all U Hauls are created equal.
Some U Haul places will tell you that if you need the U Haul for a local move you can only rent the U Haul for 24-hours. However, U Haul will allow you more time for an out of state move. In general, you won’t be allowed to purchase more days for a local move which is ridiculous.
I know someone who did a local move but it took them several days to get everything put in storage. Which goes to show that not everything with moving is just so black and white like these rules and allowances imply. In most cases, you are not allowed to rent a U Haul for more than 24 hours when doing a local move.
The best thing for you to do is to talk to your local U Haul pub and discuss the arrangement with them. They should be able to help once you explain your circumstances to them.
How Long Do You Get a U Haul Truck For?
You usually can only rent a U Haul truck for 24 hours, especially so in the case of a local move. A one way move or a move out of state usually buys you more time to make the move. You can rent a U Haul truck for 2 or 3 days at the most, more than likely.
I do not know of a single U Haul that will allow you to rent one of their trucks for an entire week. It’s crazy because you are the one having to pay for the extra days so you would think it wouldn’t be a problem. However, U Haul makes it a problem for whatever reason.
How long you get a U Haul truck depends on you and what you need it for. If you need the truck for a local move, you will probably get 24 hours or maybe even 48 hours at the most. If you are moving out of state you may be able to get the truck for 48-72 hours.
Does Renting for Multiple Days Cost More?
Of course it does. More days equals more money. U Haul is not about to give you extra rental days for free. Although they boast about having low prices, they are not as cheap as they claim to be.
If you rent for extra days, I would expect to pay a pretty penny because you are also going to be charged for mileage. The amount you pay to rent for multiple days is definitely going to add up and fast.
So if you can move your things as quickly as you can that would be great. Moving your things in one day will help you to save a lot of money in rental fees. And who doesn’t want to save money in any way that they can?
Renting for multiple days can cost a significant amount more. You have to be careful because if you keep tacking on extra days, you are going to accumulate more charges. In the end, you may wind up paying more to rent a U Haul than you had expected or planned on.
What to Do If I Can’t Rent U Haul for Multiple Days?
In a lot of cases, you may or may not be allowed to rent a U Haul for multiple days. As I mentioned earlier, U Haul dictates when and for how long you can rent a U Haul. They’ll only let you rent for 24 hours if you are doing a local move and longer for an out of state move.
These are the usual conditions. However, there could be some differences based on your local U Haul. Some U Hauls allow things that other U Hauls do not. Where I live, our U Haul allows us to rent a U Haul truck for however many days we think we’ll need it and we can even add days as we go.
Not all U Hauls allow this but if yours does then that is great for you. However, if you can’t rent a U Haul for multiple days there may be a few things you can do. The first thing you could do is return the truck and rent another one.
I’m not sure how that would work but I definitely think it is doable.
You could also talk to the manager about adding on extra days that you would then turn around and pay for. Or you could borrow a friend or relatives truck to finish the move if it is a local move.
Can You Rent a U Haul for Several Days?
Yes, in some instances, you can rent a U Haul truck for several days. It really depends on your circumstances. If you are doing a local move you may or may not be allowed to add on extra days but it is highly unlikely that they will allow you to keep the truck an entire week.
