Can I Use PayPal for U-Haul?
Unfortunately, U-Haul does not accept PayPal as a valid method of payment for their rental vehicles and towing equipment. However, U-Haul does accept a few different forms of payment for their services. Read on for what you need to know.
How Does the Payment Process Work?
The U-Haul payment process varies depending on your method of payment. Depending on the method, you may or may not have to make a deposit. You won’t be required to make a deposit if you’re paying by a major credit card. Here’s what you need to know.
You Need to Make a Deposit if You’re Paying in Cash
If you opt for cash, you’ll need to make a deposit when you pick up your rental equipment. Here are the deposits if you’re paying in cash:
- In-Town Rental Truck: $100 or estimated rental charges (whichever is higher)
- One-Way Rental Vehicle: $100 plus rental rate
Keep in mind that Cargo Vans and Pickup Trucks cannot be reserved with cash payments. These vehicles must be reserved with a credit card.
You Pay Upfront
You’ll need to pay the total estimated charges for your rental vehicle or towing equipment upfront, regardless of your payment method.
Keep in mind that cash is accepted for pickup and van rentals. However, you’ll still need to present a valid credit or debit card with a significant bank logo with your name on it.
What Forms of Payment Does U-Haul Accept?
Generally speaking, most U-Haul locations accept credit, debit, check, or cash payments. However, some independent dealerships may have varying regulations and restrictions. Here’s a list of debit cards U-Haul accepts:
- American Express
Does U-Haul Accept Prepaid Debit Cards or Gift Certificates?
Generally speaking, it depends on the location. Prepaid debit cards and gift certificates may be considered the same as cash payments at select dealers. For the most accurate information, use the official U-Haul location finder. From there, you can speak with a team member to figure out what payments are accepted.
Do All Locations Accept Cash?
Unfortunately, not all U-Haul dealers will accept cash payments. Whether or not a store accepts cash is dependent on the owner. As always, be sure to call your local U-Haul dealer to find out what methods of payment they accept.
How Does the Deposit Work?
As mentioned earlier, any rentals paid with cash are subject to a deposit. The deposit is typically around $100 depending on the vehicle and moving option.
For example, if your rental charges are $500 before the deposit, you’ll have to pay an extra $100 at the time of rental. This means you’ll pay a total of $600 cash.
When you return the rental vehicle, the $100 deposit will be refunded to you. The refund is completed either by cash or a company check that is mailed to you. Be sure to return your vehicle during business hours so that you can speak to a team member for the deposit.
If you’re having the deposit mailed to you, ensure you’re using the correct address. The refund cannot and will not be reissued until the first check comes back undelivered If you provide an incorrect address.
This Only Applies if You Don’t Rack up Any Fees.
It’s important to note that the deposit information above only applies if you don’t rack up any fees or charges. Additional fees and charges you incur can reduce or eliminate your deposit. Theoretically speaking, you could use your $100 deposit entirely and end up owing more. Here are some of the things that rack up additional fees:
- Extra days
- Extra mileage
- Damage to the equipment
- Returning a dirty vehicle
- Replacing a vehicle with less gas than intended
It’s best to avoid additional fees and charges to receive your deposit in full.
