Does WinCo Sell Flowers?

WinCo is a small warehouse store chain with stores across the US. If you decide to shop there, you can enjoy low prices compared to other stores.

However, you might not be able to buy everything you need. Consider if you can get flowers from WinCo or if you’ll need to visit the florist.

WinCo Flowers

WinCo has flowers for sale, but there are restrictions. For one, you can only find flowers and seeds during the holidays. Also, the store doesn’t have a floral department like many grocery stores. Some stores have flowers available as gifts more often, but not all locations.

Be sure to call your local WinCo if you want to buy flowers. Then, you can make sure they’ll have some in stock or avoid wasting your time.

Types of Flowers

Unfortunately, WinCo doesn’t sell a specific stock of flowers. The types available can depend on the location, time of year, and the stock that store gets in.

No two locations will have the exact same stock. And if you don’t get to the store right after an order comes in, you might have even fewer options.

Flower Arrangements

Around the holidays, you have a decent chance of seeing pre-done floral arrangements at WinCo. The holidays can see a spike in demand for flower arrangements, such as for gifts.

Outside of that season, though, you may not see different arrangements. Even when you can get arrangements there, they’ll usually be pre-done. Since WinCo doesn’t have a floral department, you can’t customize the arrangement.

However, if you just need some pretty flowers, that might not matter. You can head to your local WinCo and pick up some flowers that are ready to go.

Seeds

In the late winter and spring, you might find seed packets at WinCo. If you want to start a garden this spring, WinCo is a good place to shop.

The low prices allow you to get the seeds you need on a budget. Plus, you can shop for groceries and other items in one trip.

Unfortunately, you probably won’t find seeds later in the year. And if you wait too long, the store may run out of stock, even if it’s still spring.

Cut Flowers

Throughout the year, your local WinCo may get a limited stock of cut flowers. These are slightly different from full arrangements, and they’re usually simpler in design.

Like the arrangements, you don’t get to choose the flowers. Your store may get some in stock, and that’s what you have to choose from.

Also, your WinCo may not order cut flowers all of the time. The store will probably consider when flowers sell the best and order them during that month or season.

WinCo Doesn’t Sell a Lot of Flowers

There are a few reasons why WinCo doesn’t sell a lot of flowers. Some of its competitors sell a lot of flowers, but it’s not the company’s priority.

That’s okay, but it can make you wonder why they don’t try to compete.

Here are some potential reasons why you won’t find a ton of flowers at WinCo.

No Floral Department

The most significant reason why WinCo doesn’t carry many flowers is that they don’t have a floral department. Even some other small grocery chains have a flower department.

But having one would take up more space in the store. It would also require more employees to be working at a time.

WinCo probably doesn’t want to deal with the cost of building a flower station and training employees to work on flower arrangements.

Low Prices

WinCo offers low prices, and that does come with some sacrifices. Hiring more employees and housing a floral department would raise costs.

The store would probably pass that cost increase to customers. Offering flowers seasonally doesn’t increase costs too much.

However, if they had a floral department open every day, that would be different. At least for now, it doesn’t make financial sense for WinCo to sell flowers all of the time.

Minimal Demand

WinCo does carry some flowers around the holidays. But outside of that window, the store doesn’t see enough demand to warrant a floral department.

They might get a few extra sales per week if they offered flowers year-round. However, those extra sales probably aren’t enough to make it worth it.

Also, flowers can die if they aren’t maintained properly. So WinCo could easily lose money on flowers without the demand from customers.

Staffing Issues

WinCo could hire more people, but they don’t have enough workers right now. Floral arrangements also take a bit of skill to do.

So even if they transferred current employees, it would take time and money to train people to make the flowers look good. It makes more sense to buy flowers that are ready to go and send those to WinCo stores.

Also, other departments are busier and need more attention from employees. WinCo is a grocery store, so they probably want to focus on those areas of their stores.

You can buy flowers at WinCo but not always. They’re most readily available around the holidays, and seeds are on sale in the early spring. WinCo doesn’t feel the need to prioritize flower sales, so you might need to go elsewhere if you need flowers outside of those busy times.
