Ordering items for pickup from Target is great. You can shop when you want and save time but still get what you need.
However, you don’t want to delay the pickup too long. The store won’t hold your items forever, so consider when you’ll need to run to Target.

You have three days from when you place the order to pick it up from Target. If you can’t get there in time, you can extend the deadline another three days in your account. When ordering fresh produce, you only have until the end of the next business day.
Orders with fresh produce aren’t available for an extension. If you do want to extend the pickup time, you have to do so before the initial deadline.
How to Pick Up Your Target Order
When your order is ready, you should get an alert from Target. Then, you can head to the store where you placed the order to pick up the items.
If you use different Target locations, double-check the address. That way, you’ll go to the correct store and can proceed with the following steps.
Go Inside
One option to pick up your items is to go inside. You’ll need to note this when you check out online. When you get to Target, park in a standard spot and head in the store.
Look for a customer service or pickup counter. The counter should be close to the front doors, so you don’t have to go through the entire store.
Wait in line once you arrive, and tell an employee that you have a pickup order. They’ll ask you for proof of the order, and they can grab the items for you.
Use Drive Up
Another option is to use Drive Up, but you’ll also have to select this when placing the order. The Drive Up option is great if you don’t want to get out of your car.
You can pull into a designated parking spot near the front of the lot. Use the Target app to notify the store that you’re in the lot and ready to get your items.
An employee will bring out the order and load it into your car. Then, you can pull out of the spot and get on with your day.
When Can You Pick Up Your Order?
Target takes about two to six hours to prepare your order for pickup. The exact time depends on if what you order is in stock and how easy it is to complete.
After you learn your order is ready, you can pick it up anytime the store is open. On most days, this is from 8am to 10pm. Some days, like holidays, Target may have shorter hours, so use their website to check the times.
However, you can’t wait too long. If your order includes fresh groceries, you have to get there by the end of the business day after you place the order.
Orders that don’t include fresh items are available for three days. You can also extend the order another three days if you get too busy to pick it up.
How to Extend the Pickup Deadline
If you realize you can’t get to Target on time, you may want to extend the pickup time. You can go to the Order details page for the order in question. Then, request an extension of another three days.
As long as you don’t have any fresh items, this should go through. Otherwise, you’ll want to cancel the order and reorder the items when you can pick them up.
What You Need to Pick Up Your Order
No matter what you order for pickup, you’ll need to prove the order is yours. The easiest method is to use the Target app and bring up the barcode for the order.
A Target employee can scan the code to determine if you’re eligible to get the items. Otherwise, you can bring a photo ID or another qualifying ID.
Can You Have Someone Else Get Your Order?
If you’re too busy to get to Target, you can add a shopping partner to your order. You can add a spouse, parent, or another friend or relative.
To do this, you need to add them to your order when you check out. It’s possible you can add them later, but you will have to call Target. Then, your friend can follow the same pickup steps using their ID.
What Happens If You Miss the Pickup Deadline?
Things happen, and you may miss the pickup deadline. You might lose track of time, or you could get too busy to go to the store.
Whatever the reason, it’s okay if you miss the deadline. Target will refund you and cancel the order. So you’ll need to place the order again if you still need to get the items.
Order Pickup vs. Drive Up
You can choose to pick up your order in the store or use Drive Up. Order Pickup is where you go inside and get the items from an employee at the customer service desk.
It’s a good choice if you’re walking or are taking public transportation. You might also want to do this if you realize you need something else from Target since you can buy it while you’re there.
However, Drive Up is convenient, especially if you’re sick. It’s also nice if it’s raining out or if you otherwise don’t want to get out of your car.
Unfortunately, you’ll have to choose the option you want when you check out. If you want to change it, you can call your local Target to let them know, and they may change the method.
