Does Planet Fitness Take Cash?

Planet Fitness doesn’t take cash payments for memberships. You’ll need to give them your checking account number so that they can perform an electronic funds transfer (EFT). This keeps memberships from lapsing so that members don’t lose access to the gym.

Make sure to load your checking account with enough money each month. That way, you won’t face a chargeback, and you can continue to go to Planet Fitness.

How to Set Up EFTs

While you can’t pay Planet Fitness in cash, setting up payments is relatively easy. You will just need a checking account, and the gym can help you with the rest.

Here’s what you need to do to set up the electronic funds transfer to pay for your Planet Fitness membership.

Get Your Checking Account Number

First, you’ll need to find your checking account number. If you have a banking app or an online account, you should find the number within that app or website. You can also look at your recent bank statements to see if they have the full account number.

Another option is to contact your bank over the phone or visit the bank in person. They’ll most likely ask you to prove your identity before giving you the number.

If you don’t have a checking account, you’ll need to set one up. Most banks let you do this, so you can get the account that you need. If you can’t set up an account yourself, ask a family member to be a joint account holder.

Fund Your Account

Before you go to Planet Fitness, you’ll want to make sure your account has enough money. The amount you need depends on the account you select. If you go with a basic account, you should have about $60 available to cover the signup fee and the first month of membership.

For the annual plan, you’ll need to have $200 ready. And if you choose the PF Black Card membership, you should save about $80 for your first month. Near the end of May, make sure you have an extra $39 to cover the cost of the annual fee, which is separate from your membership costs.

Pay Planet Fitness

Now, you’re ready to head to Planet Fitness to set up your account and the EFT. Make sure you have the money in your account and that you have the correct account number and routing number.

Planet Fitness will ask for the information, and you want to make sure it’s accurate. That way, you don’t face a chargeback or accidentally charge someone else’s account.

If You Don’t Have a Checking Account

If you don’t have a checking account, you may still be able to go to Planet Fitness. However, it will be much more difficult.

You won’t be able to set up your account without some help. Here are a few ways to take advantage of Planet Fitness if you only have cash.

Ask a Friend

You can ask a friend who has a checking account if you can use their account information. It’s unclear if Planet Fitness lets you do this, but it’s worth at least asking.

Make sure your friend is willing to verify they own the account. That way, you can set everything up when you get to Planet Fitness.

Also, you should only ask this of someone you know well and have a good relationship with. They’ll be responsible for the payments, and you have to pay them back, so you need to make sure money won’t come between you.

Consider a PF Black Card

Another option is to ask a friend or relative to purchase the PF Black Card membership. This option costs more than the basic plan, but it comes with extra perks. One of the best perks is that members can bring a guest to the gym.

If you and a friend want to work out together, ask them if they want to get the PF Black Card.  They can use their checking account to cover the costs. You can be their guest, but that means you’ll only be able to go when your friend goes.

Use a Day Pass

Planet Fitness offers day passes, which allow you to get in free to test out the gym. You can go to one club for one day every 90 days. From the wording on the Planet Fitness site, it seems like you can go to different clubs without having to wait a few months.

So you could go to one club in your city one week and another the next. This can be okay if you live near a lot of clubs or if you travel. However, you’ll have to receive a club tour each time, which can take up time you’d rather spend working out.

Find out whether Planet Fitness has cycling classes and if the tanning beds are good or bad.

Can You Pay in Cash at Planet Fitness?

You can’t use cash to pay for Planet Fitness memberships. Fortunately, setting up a checking account is easy so that you can set up electronic transfers. Then, you won’t have to manually renew your membership. And if you can’t get a checking account, a friend can become a member, and you can be their guest.
